A note on the layout: The two pictures of Gavroche used are by Marine d'Antibes, who does fantastic illustrations but on whom I have been unable to gather much information via the Internet. (They are scanned from a Chinese-language translation of the Gavroche bits of Les Miserables collected for children, called something like "The Orphan's Star", that I chanced upon in a public library some years ago.) If you can provide me with more information about this illustrator, do tell me more!

It's been so bittersweet.

So much crying done... But I'm happy. I'm both happy and sad... Happy for the right reasons, and sad for the right reasons too. It would be foolishness to be only happy, and foolishness to be only sad. It is foolishness to be in my position at all, and yet if that is so I am the most blessed fool on earth; the most unworthy fool.

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven;

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
s time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink and find satisfaction in his toil - this is the gift of God.

- Ecclesiastes 3:1-13

It is a kind of death. Psyche says: "They are all deaths." But the kind of death that opens hope of a new life - for all of us.

I am praying for you; I am praying that you will see that this is just preparation for an even greater happiness than you could imagine for yourself. And that for you this happiness will come soon!
